Servicing 2e Students | International Event on Giftedness, Creativity, and Exceptionalities
Dr. Kristina Henry Collins presents excerpts from her latest co-edited book: Critical Issues in Servicing Twice Exceptional Students: Socially, Emotionally, and Culturally Framing Learning Exceptionalities. This book addresses critical issues related to appropriately servicing gifted students with other learning exceptionalities, also known as twice exceptional (2e) students. Utilizing a social, emotional, and cultural lens, it extends beyond the historical cognitive discussion within the domains of special and gifted education and draws on a variety of interpreted perspectives, featuring leading authors, experts, and specialists from several countries and from different academic disciplines and backgrounds.
Gifted Giants: The Legacy of Dr Mary Frasier
This presentation, on the legacy of Dr. Mary Frasier, shares an historical reference to E. Paul Torrance’s work and her developmental work of Frasier’s Traits, Aptitudes, and Behaviors (TABs), a culturally responsive tool used to observe core attributes of giftedness in students from various cultures and backgrounds. Credited with influencing the systemic change in the state of Georgia for identifying and servicing gifted students from marginalized backgrounds, Dr. Frasier’s work offers an equitable lens for recognizing and nurturing the gifts and talents of all students.Additional work of University of Georgia alumni and faculty are highlighted as part of this continued legacy.
